In the 21st century, Asia will play an increasingly important role in the global economy - an economy which will change dramatically. The culturally different Asian countries and regions have different economic structures and diverse retail and distribution systems. By focusing on these aspects, the Society of Asian Retailing and Distribution (SARD) hopes to engender a deeper understanding of Asian economies, with a view to contributing to the further development of Asia and the world as a whole.
SARD was established to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the retail and distribution business to promote an exchange of views, experience and knowledge with regard to the retail and distribution business in Asia. In addition, the Society organizers hope to disseminate research findings to audiences not only in Asia but also throughout the world.
SARD began life with the Asian Distribution Forum 2000, a conference of over 500 delegates held at the University of Marketing and Distribution in November 2000.
This Forum is to be followed by a research workshop in November 2001.
