The Competence of Global Retailer;
Is it possible for Carrefour to make
success in Japanese Market?

Abstract

The International activity by retailers is losing its novelty in recent years. In Japan, It has been taken the lead by specialty stores at the first stage, and category killer type at the second stage. But now, international activity of large retail formats which deal with a variety of goods including food and non-food like hypermarket of Carrefour and supercenter of Wall-Mart are attracting a great deal of attentions specially as the third stage. The objective of this study is to explore the strength of global retailer that operate large format through the case of Carrefour.
In this paper, it is going to be clarified that the Competence of large retail format exists in the ability that makes it possible for them to act globally, regionally, and nationally at the same time. In a nutshell, its strength comes from the ability to establish global standard at core part and national standard at fringe part of business.
